There are multiple family relative marriages among our "Solomon Cousins". Sets of siblings, first and second cousins, and even an uncle and a niece have married one another! This poses a challenge in understanding precisely how we are related to one another.
In some instances we are doubly related to one another such as siblings (S) who are also second cousins (2C).
And because of the significant age difference between the eldest and youngest of Shlomo and Chana (Posner) Solomon's eight children (some 22 years), their descendants of similar age and affinity with one another may find themselves on quite different generational branches of the family tree.

www.cousincouples.com
The above site highlights famous people, including Albert Einstein, who married their first cousins. Did you know that Charles Darwin married his first cousin Emma Wedgwood? They had 10 children, all healthy, some brilliant.
It has been estimated that 20 percent of all couples worldwide are first cousins. It is also estimated that 80 percent of all marriages historically have been between first cousins!
Interesting Cousin Facts:
In some cultures, the term cousin and mate are synonymous.
No European country prohibits marriage between first cousins. It is also legal throughout Canada and Mexico to marry your cousin. The USA is the only western country with cousin marriage restrictions.
The first Prime Minister of Canada, Sir John A. MacDonald married his first cousin.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt the longest serving US president in history, married his cousin (not a first cousin, however they shared the same last name).
God commanded many cousins to marry, including Zelophehad's five daughters. The Patriarch Jacob married both Rachel and Leah who were his first cousins. And his father Isaac and mother Rebekah were first cousins once removed. (1C1R)
Chapter 18 of the Book of Leviticus lists all forbidden sexual relationships. Cousin relationships are not included.

Eva Solomon and Harry Lifshitz (Lipton) were first cousins and their marriage was arranged by their parents
This is the story.
Eva's older sister Bertha was pregnant with her first child when Bertha's husband Sam developed a severe toothache and went to a dentist to have the tooth extracted. Soon after the procedure he developed a raging infection (he had haemophilia) and died just a short few days later. Bertha was now a young widow, and was pregnant and her family was concerned about how she would be able to manage.
Her father, Shlomo Solomon (whose surname was actually Shuster) had one brother, Israel Shuster, and two sisters, Freda and Sarah. (Israel and Freda had settled in Toronto.) Freda was married to Velvel Borovoy and they had 8 children. (One of her grandsons is lawyer Alan Borovoy.)
Shlomo's sister Sarah had remained in Mogilev, Belarus, and was married to Moishe Lifshitz. They had 8 or 9 children, one of whom was Arye (Harry) Lifshitz (Lipton). This was the era during WW I and just before the Russian Revolution. Economic times were tough and Harry was facing forced conscription into the Russian Army.
He was a quiet young man, colour-blind, with a gentle personality. His parents were very worried about his future. So it was decided that he would go to his uncle, Shlomo Solomon in Toronto. There the family would help him to find work as a schneider (a tailor), and assuming that he and Bertha did not find anything seriously objectionable about one another, they would be married, and Bertha's unborn child would have a father.
It took several months to arrange Harry's exit logistics and to underwrite his travel, and additional time (traveling on a very limited budget) to journey through Europe, to England and then to Canada. Before Harry arrived, an engaging young man (also seeking to escape from the Russian army) whose name was Joe Persky presented himself in Toronto. He had been advised to go and see Shlomo Solomon. Joe arranged his room and lodging in the establishment run by Shlomo's daughter, Chaisora (Sarah) and her husband Hershel Leib (Henry) Atkins.
And who was there helping their sister Chaisora with the endless daily chores running a household which included seven children as well as boarders? Why the youngest sisters of course, Bertha and Eva. And Joe Persky was exciting, he was fun, he was full of life. Bertha fell in love with him. And so did Eva.
But in any generation finding the right marriage partner is not an easy task, and before long it became clear that Joe was smitten with sister Becky (Solomon) Salkovitch (who was married (!) to Sam Salkovitch and therefore officially off limits).
So now here's a tangle that's sixfold.
Bertha (recently widowed, pregnant with her deceased husband's child) has fallen in love with Joe, and so has her youngest sister Eva. And Joe's in love with Becky, who's already married to Sam! Then who should arrive but Harry, engagement token in hand, expecting to marry Bertha! But Bertha's going to have a baby and needs to be settled quickly, and she's in love with Joe. (And Becky's already married.)
So in short order Zaida Shlomo and Bubbie Chana Solomon set about marrying Bertha off to Joe Persky, (and when the baby's born he's given the name Sam Persky) and the couple move to Chicago. And Zaida Shlomo and Bubbie Chana advise their youngest daughter Eva to marry her cousin Harry, and they tell her that they believe that he's a hard worker and that he will be good to her.
And Harry presented a few arguments of his own. He knew that as the youngest sister, the baby of the family, Eva had spent an inordinate amount of her time assisting her sisters, helping to care for their many babies, washing diapers, cooking, babysitting etc.
He accompanied his proposal to her with the offer that she could be her own boss. He suggested to her that after marrying him, she wouldn't have to take orders from anybody. She believed him.
They were married on December 24, 1916.

And here is retiree Harry Lipton (no doubt pleased to have been asked), an elegant model for men's fashion. He did know how to wear a jacket, don't you agree?

More cousin cross-overs!
Chaisora (Sarah) Solomon Atkins and Hershel Leib (Henry) Atkins' youngest daughter Lillian Atkins married Albert Kokotow.
A photograph (taken in 1942) of Lillian and two of her children, Marian and Louise, may be seen on the Photo Album page of this website. Lillian's niece, Rita Atkins (the eldest of the six daughters of her brother Benny Atkins and his wife, Ida) married Lillian's husband Albert's nephew, Irving Kokotow.
Irving and Rita (Atkins) Kokotow's daughter Maureen Kokotow married her cousin, Joe Solomon, son of Mike (Meyer) and Sara Solomon, grandson of Harry and Dora (Rogow) Solomon.
Maureen's great-grandmother, Chaisora (Solomon) Atkins and Joe's grandfather, Harry Solomon were sister and brother!
What is the degree of cousin relationship between Maureen Kokotow and Joe Solomon?
For those of you who like to use the cousin chart, (see the Cousins Connect Page) Maureen's husband Joe Solomon and her mother, Rita Atkins Kokotow are 2nd cousins(2C). Their children are 3rd cousins (3C) to her and 2nd cousins twice removed (2C2R) to him.
AND another granddaughter of Chaisora (Sarah) Solomon Atkins and Hershel Leib (Henry) Atkins married her cousin. Who is it?
Maureen (Kokotow) Solomon's aunt, Muriel Atkins, (one of her mother's sisters) ALSO married HER cousin. Here's how:
Muriel Atkins' grandfather Hershel Leib Atkins was one of 12 children! (As we have seen, one of his sisters, Sarita Atkins, married Itzak Rogow and two of the Rogow children, Benny and Dora, married the Solomon siblings Mary and Harry.)
Another one of Hershel Leib Atkins' sisters was Yedasha Atkins who married Israel Minster.
Their daughter Faye Minster married Ben Schwartz.
Faye and Ben Schwartz had a son, Arthur Schwartz. Arthur Schwartz is Muriel's husband.
Arthur's grandmother,Yedasha (Atkins) Minster and Muriel's grandfather, Hershel Leib Atkins were sister and brother. Arthur and Muriel (Atkins) Schwartz are second cousins. (2C)
